We work through one point of contact because the result is better that way.
Mstudio is a one-person studio based in Tokyo. Building, fixing, looking after, filming, measuring — the stages that usually get split between companies are all seen through by one person. Not splitting them is not a matter of principle; it is a matter of practicality. Nothing is lost in handover, so it is faster. The same person stays on it, so it does not drift. And with no middleman markup, your budget goes into the work. We started in 2018 and have built more than fifty sites by hand since.

Based in Tokyo, working with clients all over Japan. (Meetings are online as standard; in and around the Kanto region we also meet in person and travel for shoots.)
What keeps me in this work is solving someone's problem alongside them, and turning “this is what I want it to be” into something real. I started building for the web in 2018. These days that runs from WordPress builds and landing pages to site migrations, improving online shops, and shooting the photography and video — all of it by hand.
The route here was a slightly unusual one: before the web, I drove a taxi in Tokyo. I also did private-hire work for overseas visitors and helped out with short-stay accommodation, which is where I got comfortable talking to people I had only just met. Twelve years of Kyokushin karate, including a win at the Chiba prefectural championship, is a quiet source of pride. Manners and the ability to keep going both came from there.
Thailand is my other favourite place. Visiting often turned into friendships there, and studying Thai and English became a lifelong habit. (Through a Thai friend I once built a company website on an overseas server.) Otherwise I like being outdoors — cycling, surfing, fishing — and walking the back streets with a small camera on me. Given how much of the work is at a desk, time near nature matters.

What we hold to.
What we build with.
Built with how easy the site is to use, and to read, kept in mind
Server-side machinery, sending mail and handling data are all covered
Chosen by balancing how easy it is to update against what it costs to run
From running the servers to automating updates, handled here as well
Partners overseas.
The building is all done by one pair of hands. On top of that, where work crosses borders, we team up with people who know the ground there.

It does not have to be a job yet.
“Is this even something you do?” is a fine place to start. Working out what the problem actually is — that is part of the job too.
